An enormous thank you to the hundreds of Pukaha supporters (and garden lovers) who came to the Bird and Garden Tour on Saturday. It was a unparalleled success and we are delighted with the feedback.
Three kiwi chicks doing well
The three chicks, born last week, are from the kiwi that we brought down from Little Barrier Island earlier this year. Their parents settled in to the forest, fattened themselves up and got down to business. August is the breeding month and so far, it has been a successful one.
The survival rate for kiwi in the wild is 5%. With the BNZ Operation Nest Egg programme, there is a 65% chance of survival in the first vulnerable 12 months.
The smiles on our rangers faces say it all.

The upgrade to the nocturnal kiwi house will dramatically improve your viewing in to the brooding centre and enable interaction with the Rangers. Make sure you visit us this summer to see how these little guys are getting on.
