Our
volunteers
are
local
people
who
have
a
love
and
passion
for
birds
and
conservation.
Many
of
them
are
retired
folk
who
have
time
on
their
hands
and
wish
to
give
something
back
to
the
community.
We
are
very
fortunate
to
have
a
strong
team
of
volunteers
to
help
us
with
the
birds.
Volunteers
can
be
involved
in
a
large
number
of
tasks
from
bird
observation
to
cleaning
feedstations
inside
aviaries,
to
collecting
leaf
litter,
preparing
food
for
the
birds
and
even
weighing
aviary
birds
using
remote
scales.
Most
importantly,
volunteers
can
do
what
the
birdstaff
team
struggle
to
do
and
that
is
offer
time
to
sit
and
observe
birds
for
a
long
period.
They
may
be
observing
the
new
hihi
for
an
hour
to
see
how
well
they’re
settling
into
captivity
or
observing
the
incubation
of
shore
plover
eggs
or
even
watching
the
captive
kiwi
for
signs
of
illness.
It’s
all
important
work
and
our
volunteers
are
highly
regarded
as
an
important
part
of
the
birdstaff
team.
